De son vrai nom Michael Peterson, Charles Bronson est né en 1952.

En 1987, l’organisateur de ses combats lui donne son nouveau patronyme : Charles Bronson.

Originaire d’Aberystwyth, à l’ouest du Pays de Galles, il s’installe ensuite à Merseyside, puis à Luton, que l’on considère souvent comme sa ville natale. Il a aujourd’hui 56 ans.

« C’est grâce au producteur Rupert Preston, qui a distribué tous mes précédents films, que je me suis intéressé à Bronson. Il m’a donné le scénario, en pensant que j’aurais peut-être envie de le mettre en scène. Mais, honnêtement, j’ai un peu hésité parce que j’avais déjà réalisé plusieurs longs-métrages sur des personnages violents, et en particulier des hommes. Après avoir lu le scénario, et en avoir discuté avec Rupert et le producteur exécutif Allan Niblo, on s’est dit qu’on pouvait donner au film une ampleur inattendue. Au fur et à mesure de nos discussions, j’ai commencé à trouver ce projet de plus en plus exaltant et, par chance, j’ai réussi à me libérer pour le tournage car, à l’époque, je travaillais sur un autre film (Valhalla Rising – le guerrier silencieux – Sortie prévue en 2010).

Certains de ses poèmes ont obtenu de nombreuses récompenses littéraires. Voici l'un d'entre eux :
